Sewing Book Giveaway - ends 11-5-09

I am still SLOWLY cleaning out my workshop bookcases and I have another book for a giveaway. It is called "Sew Darn Cute" and has lots of neat projects in it. To enter just leave a comment on this post letting me know what the first thing you ever made was and if you still have it. The giveway ends at midnight on Thursday 11-5-09 and I will draw a winner on Friday 11-6-09. My first project was a skirt with yellow ducks all over it. I was in kindergarten and I helped my mom make it. I got to hem it all by myself, which explains the 4-inch long uneven messy stitches everywhere. I didn't realize until years later that my mom went back over it with tiny stitches, but left mine on it. I still have my yellow ducky skirt safely packed away!

30% off Monogrammed Mirrors thru 11-6-09

Men are the same everywhere!!

There are lots of international officers that are here for a year to go through a course at Fort Leavenworth (Kansas). We went to the international dinner this weekend. Everyone had to prepare and bring a main dish and a dessert that represented their country. There were over 100 beautiful and elaborate dishes!! Of course you could easily spot the dishes that were brought by the single men. Here are a few of my favorities:

Norway: Cinnamon Rolls; at least the guy gave "Price Chopper" full credit (our local grocery store)

Bulgaria: Little Caesars Pizza (a Geo bachelor is a soldier that is married, but stationed somewhere without his wife or family)

And the best one of the night is the chicken from Afghanistan that is marked as "pork".

Wax Seal Peace Sign Necklace Giveaway!

Amy and I have been on-line friends for a while. We have never actually met in person, but have been emailing and working together for several years. She is hosting a giveaway for a wax seal peace sign necklace on her blog "The Preppy Pink Olive". Just visit her blog for the details; the giveaway ends 10-24-09. Thanks Amy!!

Soldering Class!

I took a soldering class last weekend to learn how to make pendants. It was so much fun!! I really want to make a bunch of larger ones for Christmas ornaments so that I can tie them on gifts this year. If you want to learn how to make these just check out any of the bead shops in your area. Some of them may offer a class in soldering. I bought a book, but ended up making a big burnt mess out of the solder....the class was much easier!!

Ceramic Bead Book Giveaway

I am still cleaning out our book shelves. I am lucky enough to have two copies of Jennifer Jangles Ceramic Bead Book so I am giving one away this week. To enter, just leave a comment on this post letting me know what types of beads are your favorite (of course if you are an obsessed bead freak like me you LOVE them all....there is no such thing as a bad bead). The contest ends at midnight on Thursday 10-22-09 and I will draw a winner on Friday. I started following her blog last year and love all of her designs. If you like to make or collect ceramic beads you will love her blog and Etsy shop "Jennifer Jangles Blog". I think it is really neat that she wrote her own book too!!

Run Forrest Run!!

This weekend was the Kansas City marathon; my husband ran the half marathon. He did pretty good on his time, One hour and 52 minutes. I think he did really well considering his latest training program. He only did a few long runs and ate ice cream EVERY night for the last two months. I only had one picture turn out because it was pretty dark at 6:00 am. They had about 10,000 runners Saturday and it was a lot of fun to watch (and drink coffee on the side lines).
